History of the Firm

Engineering and Inspection Services, LLC is a full service professional engineering and design firm based in Metairie, LA. The company began operations in February of 2002, and has a diverse background of experience, including reliability, maintenance and operations in the petrochemical industry. This has allowed the company to excel in maintenance, troubleshooting and equipment retrofits for both stationary and rotating equipment. We currently provide services in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Illinois. Our company is registered as a professional engineering firm in the states of Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Florida.

In 2002 the company was awarded itsí first contract for a "high speed centrifugeĒ reliability study at the Chevron Oronite facility in Plaquemines Parish. Since then, the company has grown to approximately 70 employees, providing an array of services including reliability support, capital project design support, inspection services, and turnaround support to the petrochemical, steel, aluminum, plastics and oil distribution sectors. Our primary areas of expertise are in:

  • Civil/Structural

  • Instrumentation/Electrical
  • Chemical/Process

In the months following hurricane Katrina in 2005, EIS provided essential personnel and technical start-up support for the ConocoPhillips Alliance Refinery, as well as the Murphy Oil and ExxonMobil Chalmette refineries. EISís expertise was essential in the safe start up of these refineries, which included extensive equipment surveys, retrofits and redesigns. We continue to provide services to these refineries.

In 2009, EIS expanded itsí technical services to include stress and finite element analysis. These services include:

  • Piping stress analysis
  • Vessel re-rates and retrofits
  • API 579 Fitness for Services analysis
  • Gasket upgrades and bolt torque calculations
  • Flange design analysis

Today, EIS continues to provide quality engineering and design services, at a reasonable cost to our clients.

Some of our most recent project experience is as follows:

1. Design and Project Management for PSV Project

  • Provided mechanical and structural design for the installation of approximately 50 PSVís that had been scoped for resizing by the client.
  • Provided piping isometrics, bill of materials, IFA drawings, IFC drawings, red lined P&IDís, and project documentation and closeout.

2. Analysis and Redesign of Acid Ductwork (ongoing project)

  • Provided analysis and repair recommendations for repeat acid duct failure in clientsí acid plant. Client has decided to redesign the duct work as opposed to performing repairs.
  • EIS is currently providing a duct redesign to eliminate future duct failures.
  • EIS will utilize Abaqus FEA package to complete this project.

3. Engineering and Design of a new Flash Drum

  • Provided civil, structural, piping and I/E design for the installation of a new Flash Drum vessel.
  • Provided foundation and structural drawings, piping drawings and I/E drawings
  • Performed stress analysis of new overhead piping, which was to be tied in to existing overhead piping.
  • Sized PSV and completed data sheet.
  • Provided construction installation estimate, piping isometrics, bill of materials, IFA drawings, IFC drawings, red lined P&IDís, and project documentation and closeout.

4. Engineering and Design of a new Crude Railcar Unloading Depot

  • Provided civil, structural, piping and I/E design for the installation of a new crude rail car unloading depot. This included:
    • Pump foundation and electrical design for new pump
    • Installation of a new orifice meter run
    • Installation of a new custody transfer meter
    • Installation of a new coalescer
    • Piping design
  • Provided piping isometrics, bill of materials, IFA drawings, IFC drawings, red lined P&IDís, and project documentation and closeout.
